September 2015

3D1’s F1 Work Attachment at Pan Pacific Hotel

During the three days of Singapore Grand Prix Formula One night race from 18 to 20 September 2015, 26 girls raced against time to complete the various tasks that had been assigned to them. Tasked to fold napkins and linen, serve customers, clean guestrooms and ensure that public areas were spotless, these girls worked tirelessly.

As newly appointed members of the Pan Pacific family, the girls took to their roles like a duck to water. The resilience and vigour that they displayed while carrying out their tasks not only earned them praises from their supervisors, some guests too, sang their praises. Despite the obstacles that they faced, the girls pushed on relentlessly to do PL proud. They will continue to strive for excellence for the Glory of God!

PL emerges Champion in the Methodist Cup tournament

The PL Badminton participated in the annual Methodist Cup held on 2 September 2015. Our Secondary 2 and 3 badminton players fought hard and eventually walked away with the 1 st prize. They will continue to strive to glorify the Lord.

The start of the service in prayer

The Baccalaureate Service held on 23 September 2015 was the last chapel service for the graduating classes of 2015. Reverend Aaron Tay delivered the final message titled 'iHope' to them during this service. During the special service, they were given an opportunity to take Holy Communion which reminded them of God’s love and grace for them.

After the message, Mrs Quek shared a few words with the students and presented collar pins to the graduating classes, a tradition in PL. The students also received a pen from Paya Lebar Methodist Church and booklet entitled “PL Memories” from the school, which was specially created for them. Head Prefect Amanda Chia and Vice Head Prefect Alicia Chua then presented a wooden picnic table to the school on behalf of the graduating cohort. This was followed by a video compilation of all the messages of encouragement and well-wishes put together by their teachers.

Students' Reflections:
“I feel that the service was very memorable and meaningful for us as we come to the end of our PL Journey. I felt a tinge of sadness knowing that this was our last service in PL. The service evoked in me many fond memories of my time in PL. In the blink of an eye, four years have gone by. As a batch, we are very appreciative and grateful that we are blessed with many caring, thoughtful and loving teachers in PL. Once a PL-Lite, always a PL-Lite. I am certain that even when we leave the sheltering walls of PL, the school will always have a special place in our hearts.”
Amanda Chia, 4A1

“It is finally time to leave the sheltering walls of PL after 10 bittersweet years and no finale could have been better than the Baccalaureate Service conducted for the graduating batch. The Baccalaureate Service was definitely poignant and significant. The Sec 4 and 5 cohorts partake in Holy Communion as each pastor and teacher prayed a prayer of blessing for each one of us. It was the most powerful segment of the service for me. Indeed, after the service, I felt ready to face my greatest challenge yet, knowing that God and PL will always be behind me.”
Rena Ang, 4A4

Teachers' Day Lunch

PLMGS (Sec) Teachers' Day lunch was held on 3 September at Village Hotel Katong. This year was special as we paid tribute to the pioneer staff. Besides the sumptuous lunch and table games, our staff who were also former students of PLMGS (Sec) dedicated songs from the ‘Cliff Choruses’ to the pioneer staff. It was indeed a meaningful day solely dedicated to both teaching and non-teaching staff.

The Teachers’ Day Celebration held on 3 September 2015 was planned and led by a group of student leaders from the Prefectorial Board and Monitors’ Council. The concert was centered on the theme “Always with a Mission Plan”. Many different CCA groups and student representatives put up heartwarming performances for their teachers in appreciation for what they have done for the PL-Lites. The parents from the PSSG also took time off their busy schedule to put up an item for the teachers on this special day. The celebration ended on a high as we acknowledged and celebrated with the staff who received an award and recognition from their students and colleagues during the PL Teachers' Day Award.
